WestJet Cargo is doubling its flight frequencies between Calgary and Seoul to meet increasing demand for air cargo and passenger transportation between Canada and South Korea.
Starting the week of May 19, the Calgary-Seoul route will increase from three to six flights per week, operating until Oct. 13. The route will continue to be served by WestJet’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner, offering a weekly cargo capacity of approximately 130 tons and 480 cubic metres.
“Doubling our frequencies is a testament to our commitment to strengthening connections between Canada and South Korea,” stated Kirsten de Bruijn, executive vice-president, cargo at WestJet. “We’re proud to enhance flexibility and capacity, supporting businesses in navigating a dynamic global trade environment.”
“This expansion is driven by market demand and designed to provide our partners with greater opportunities for seamless imports and exports,” added Julius Mooney, commercial director, cargo at WestJet. “It’s about offering solutions that empower businesses across both regions.”
The announcement coincides with the first anniversary of WestJet’s Canada-South Korea connection, launched on May 17, 2024. Over the past year, the route has supported growing trade and tourism opportunities while strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
The expanded service also advances Calgary’s position as a global hub for intercontinental travel and commerce.
