Armour Transportation Systems to purchase Cancom Mobile Communications System
Cancom, provider of mobile communication solutions for the transportation industry, has announced that Armour Transportation Systems is the first Canadian company to purchase LTLTracs for use in over 400 vehicles in its less-than-truckload fleet. The agreement also involves the sale of SensorTRACS and customized software integration.
“Cancom’s new technology was the best match available for our key requirements, and we are already seeing a positive impact on our LTL operation,” said Wes Armour, President of Armour Transportation Systems. Virtually all of Armour’s 400 plus LTL vehicles and all 20 terminals will use these new communications tools.
Armour Transportation had identified several key business requirements while investigating available technology on the market: remote management of driver and vehicle performance for safety reasons and the ability to standardize and capture speed and idling data for fuel optimization.
Armour was also looking for a system that would easily integrate with their existing computer system. Other Armour requirements included enhancement of its on-line track and trace service (with real-time information) and to streamlined communications throughout the entire fleet and terminal network.
“Armour Transportation Systems has provided Cancom with a very strong endorsement of our new LTL product line. While many Canadian LTL fleets use OmniTRACS for line-haul and point to point applications, this marks the first time that our technology has been so extensively deployed by an LTL carrier,” said Mike Ham, a senior vice president of Cancom.
LTLTracs provides real-time, two-way communications vehicle position reporting for improved mobile worker productivity and operations administration. Features include two-way data communications, store-and-forward messaging, automatic vehicle tracking using integrated Global Positioning System (GPS), as well as data integration capabilities with routing and scheduling systems, and business-specific office applications.
SensorTRACS (Cancom’s hands-free trip recording module) monitors and records driver and vehicle performance. It displays real-time MPG average, over-rev and over-idle information for drivers, so they can improve their driving habits. The information is also remotely downloaded -to head-office to improve driver safety, reduce fuel costs and implement driver-incentive programs.
