ATA releases March figures
The Air Transport Association of North America has released its latest stats on freight and express revenue ton miles flown by member carriers in March this year.
International freight and express revenue ton miles came to 1,022,211,000, a slight 0.3 per cent increase compared to March 2000, which was 1,019,416,000. Year to date figures up until May 4 this year stood at 2,739,573,000, a 0.8 per cent increase from last year. The figure for the same period in 2000 was 2,717,225,000.
In the North American domestic market, however, there was a decrease in March this year with a total of 861,463,000 revenue ton miles covered. This is down 8.1 per cent compared with March 2000 when the figure stood at 936,953,000. The year to date up to May 4 this year saw ATA members fly 2,375,327,000 domestic revenue ton miles, down 5.9 per cent over the same period in 2000 when the figure came to 2,525,191,000.
In total, March 2001 saw a 3.7 per cent decline in freight and express revenue ton miles when compared with March last year. ATA members flew 1,883,664,000 revenue ton miles this March, down from 1,956,369,000 in the same period last year. The year to date figure until May 4 2001 for freight and express revenue ton miles came to 5,114,900,000, down 2.4 per cent compared with the same period last year when the figure came to 5,242,416,000.
