B.C. Regional Transportation Advisory…

B.C. Regional Transportation Advisory Committee members sought

The Ministry of Transportation in British Columbia is seeking candidates to serve on eight Regional Transportation Advisory Committees (RTACs) that are being formed throughout the province to give regions a greater say in advising government of their transportation needs and priorities.

RTACs will advise the Minister of Transportation of regional transportation needs and priorities, participate in the Ministry’s annual planning processes and feed into the Provincial Strategic Transportation Plan. These will be advisory bodies rather than financial authorities; control of provincial transportation investments will remain with the province.

Each RTAC will comprise up to 15 members selected by the Minister of Transportation through an application process. The eight RTACs will be outside of the Greater Vancouver Regional District, where Translink, a regional transportation authority, already exists. As a result, applications will not be accepted from people in the GVRD, as there will be no RTAC for this area.

The Ministry has set up a web site that contains more information about these committees, including a profile of the preferred characteristics, skills and experience we are seeking for chairs and members, and an application form. Participants will serve without a stipend but will be compensated for reasonable travel expenses.

Those interested in serving on an RTAC should visit the Ministry’s Web site at: www.th.gov.bc.ca/RTAC/rtac.htm.

The deadline for applications for chair is January 24, 2003; the deadline for committee membership is February 7.
