BNSF posts intermodal rates online

by Canadian Shipper

The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company has posted to the Internet ramp-to-ramp rates for intermodal service in more than 200 of its lanes at

The rates posted on the site are the only domestic and full truckload rates BNSF offers in these lanes.

In addition, BNSF has eliminated minimum revenue commitments associated with these rates, so that shippers who can organize drayage and agree to terms outlined in BNSF’s Intermodal Service User Agreement will now have direct access to BNSF.

“By making our intermodal prices public, we hope to demonstrate to the greater shipping community that intermodal transportation is truly a cost-effective alternative to over-the-road transportation. Because we are eliminating minimums, shippers have the option to do business directly with BNSF, or use the information posted on this Web site as a resource in making informed decisions on how they spend their transportation dollars,” said Ed Zajac, assistant vice president, IMC and Truckload Marketing.
