Boeing’s 717 on chopping block

by Canadian Shipper

Boeing has warned that it might end production of its slow-selling 717, following the Sept.11 terrorist attacks, because it is the only line that is not economical.

In further response to the US airlines’ drastic capacity reductions, Boeing plans to cut as many as 30,000 commercial aircraft workers by the end of next year, with 10% of the reduction slated for this year. The estimated cuts may or may not include potential layoffs from canceling the 717.
