Canada Customs partners with Courier Association, Yellow Freight on smuggling

by Canadian Shipper

The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with Yellow Freight System, Inc. and the Canadian Courier Association, under the CCRA’s Partners in Protection Program.

These MOUs are aimed at combatting contraband smuggling, and include commitments to promote increased security at locations where there are identified risks, assist in efforts to detect and investigate smuggling attempts, facilitate the exchange of information, heighten awareness of problems related to drug and other contraband smuggling, and discuss security procedures and other matters of mutual interest.

As partners in the Partners in Protection program, Yellow Freight System, Inc. and the Canadian Courier Association will benefit from a better understanding of customs requirements and improved communications between their employees and members, and CCRA staff. The program also allows low-risk goods to move more quickly as it will be easier to target higher-risk goods.
