Canadian Pacific Railway to provide more shipping options by joining NACS

Canadian Pacific Railway has joined the North American Container System (NACS), a doublestack network encompassing almost every major U.S. market.

The NACS, created in February 1996, is designed to facilitate the free interchange of 48- and 53-foot containers between member railroads without restrictions.

Other participants in NACS include, Canadian National Railway Company Burlington Northern and Santa Fe,CSX Intermodal, I & M Rail Link, Kansas City Southern Railway Company, Norfolk Southern Railway Company, Texas-Mexican Railway Company, Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana, and Wisconsin Central Transportation Corporation.

CPR’s participation in NACS will provide customers shipping between Canada, U.S. and Mexico increased competitive options for traffic currently moving over the road, said John McBoyle, general manager, CPR Domestic Intermodal.
