Canadian Society of Customs Brokers elects new chair

OTTAWA, Ont. — The Canadian Society of Customs Brokers (CSCB) has elected Melanie Bedard as its new chair of the board of directors. The announcement was made following the CSCB’s annual conference and celebration of its 90th anniversary at the Hilton Lac Leamy in Gatineau, Que. Sept. 19-20.

Bedard has worked in the customs brokerage industry for nearly 30 years. Since 2008, she has been vice-president, Canadian Customs operations at Milgram and Company in Montreal. Previously, she worked for a large international freight forwarder and customs broker where she was responsible for Eastern Canadian Customs and consulting operations, land transportation and was a national quality director.

Bedard has served on the CSCB National Board since 2009. She has been an active leader within the CSCB since 1996, holding a variety of leadership positions, such as secretary treasurer, and chair of the Quebec Region committee.

Bedard obtained her Qualified Customs Broker status with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency in 1988, her Professional Customs Broker status in 2004, and is a Certified Customs Specialist. She graduated with highest honours from the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA) Module II course in logistics management and international trade and marketing in June 2002.
