CERES/NYK wins bid to continue running Fairview Cove Container Terminal at Port of Halifax

Ceres/NYK will remain as operator at the Fairview Cove Container Terminal at the Port of Halifax under the terms of a new 20 year contract effective January 1, 2003.

Ceres/NYK was on a shortlist which included three other proponents vying for a long term contract to operate the Fairview Cove Container Terminal.

The shortlisted proponents in addition to Cerescorp Company, Montreal, PQ / NYK (North America) Inc., New Jersey, were:
 CSX World Terminals LLC, Charlotte, North Carolina and Logistec Stevedoring Inc., Montreal, PQ
 P & O Ports North America, New Jersey
 Terminal Systems Inc., Vancouver, BC

Cerescorp was the original operator for the Fairview Cove Container Terminal beginning operations with its opening in 1982.

“We have had a strong history of success at Fairview Cove and the interest shown in our Port by so many industry leaders allows us to be optimistic about the next 20 years,” said Karen Oldfield, Port Authority President & CEO. “This was an intensely competitive situation and the quality of the proponents and the bids reflected that. Ultimately our decision was based on who we believed would be the best company to help us optimize our revenue potential and growth objectives,” said Ms. Oldfield.

The Port of Halifax has a total annual income impact of $670 million dollars and an employment impact of over 9,000 direct and indirect jobs.
