TORONTO, Ont. — The Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association has named its 2010 scholarship award recipient. Fatin Ishraq Chowdhury, whose father works with CIFFA member Kuehne + Nagel in Mississauga, received his scholarship cheque and plaque at a CIFFA board meeting in December.

The scholarship program, introduced by CIFFA in 2009, disburses funds annually to children of the association’s 249 regular member employees who are pursuing higher learning in an accredited Canadian college or university.

“CIFFA has always emphasized the educational programs throughout its history and has ensured that students were well-prepared for their careers in our industry,” said CIFFA’s immediate past president, Robert Walker. “As one member of the jury that examined Fatin’s application, I believe CIFFA is assisting a student with the acquired qualities of responsibility, diligence, and dedication. With our help, Fatin will be able to achieve the goals he has set for himself: goals that should be encouraged. He, his family and Kuehne + Nagel should all be proud of this honour.”

On behalf of the board of directors and members, current CIFFA president Marc Bibeau added his congratulations saying, “We hope that Fatin will be one of our shining stars, and we wish him continued success.”

Fatin thanked CIFFA and the board of directors for awarding him this $3,000 scholarship which will assist him with his expenses at the University of Waterloo.

“As a student of environment studies, I believe I will be able to use my skills as I enter the industry in the future.”
