Canadian National says that it has now successfully implemented the Responsible Care initiative at all of its Canadian operations, following verification of management practices conducted by an independent team under the auspices of the Canadian Chemical Producers’ Association (CCPA).
Responsible Care was developed by the chemical industry to address public concerns about the manufacture, distribution and use of chemicals, and has been extended to partners in related industries such as railroads.
A further round of verification which will take place in 2003, will assess CN’s Responsible Care practices in the United States and will be coordinated by the American Chemistry Council. Reverifications are to take place every three years in order to monitor companies’ compliance with the program.
