CN trains using CP lines to bypass blockades

According to a report by CBC published early this morning, a special arrangement was brokered between CN and CP which allowed some of CN’s traffic to travel on CP lines.

The deal was set up last week, and saw CN traffic using CP locomotives and routes, sometimes though the United States, to get essential supplies past the blockades.

According to the CBC story, Transport Canada and the Transport minister’s office contacted the railways and helped to negotiate the deal.

The deal was kept so quiet that even affected industries did not know it was taking place.
