CSCMP and WERC join forces to present new Web seminar

Lombard, ILL — The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) will jointly present a web seminar, Supply Chain Risk Management, September 13, 2006, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon Central Time.

The seminar will mark the first joint venture between CSCMP and WERC, two professional organizations that share a long-standing commitment of advancing the supply chain profession through educational programs, resources, and research.

“When key supply chain participantsXincluding association professionalsXcollaborate to realize common goals and objectives,” said Rick D. Blasgen, CSCMP president and chief executive officer, “everyone wins. When professional organizations join forces, it’s for the greater good of the supply chain community.”

Robert L. Shaunnessey, executive director of WERC, concurred. “Presenting actionable ideas for supply chain managers is a continuing strength of both WERC and CSCMP. The results of our collaboration are evident in the accessible, high-quality programming of the Supply Chain Risk Management web seminar.”

Supply chain risk management entails more than addressing security issues and effective crisis management plans. It also involves creating a set of proactive mitigation strategies that allow a significant reduction in the financial impact of supply chain disruptions.

Blasgen maintains that, in today’s business environment, there is nothing more important than managing risk and securing the supply chain from end to end. “CSCMP and WERC recognize this,” he stated, “and are working together with members across the organizations to educate and inform, as well as improve total supply chain security.”

The CSCMP/WERC web seminar will feature three prominent speakers who have broad expertise on and experience with supply chain risk management:

h Vinod Singhal, Professor of Operations Management, College of Management, Georgia Institute of Technology and Associate Director for the Center for Paper Business and Industry Studies
h Jim Thomas, Senior Director of Supply Management, Darden Restaurants
h Richard Sharpe, President and Chief Executive Officer, Competitive Logistics LLC
h
The seminar content and discussions will focus on the financial impact of supply chain disruptions across industries, proven methods of identifying and prioritizing critical supply chain vulnerabilities, and key strategies to lessen the impact of disruptions. Global food-industry cases will be used to demonstrate how one parent company supports its subsidiaries by proactively addressing supply chain disruptions.

The deadline for registration is September 12, 3:00 pm Central Time. Voice over IP (VoIP) access is available after web seminar log in. Local or toll-free access numbers will be available for 19 countries.
