Emery Worldwide Launches U.S.-Mexico Border Customs Brokerage Service Expansion

by Canadian Shipper

In September, Emery Worldwide is launching a southern border expansion of its customs brokerage unit to provide full customs brokerage service coverage along the U.S.-Mexico border to key cities in California, Arizona and Texas.

The expansion will establish a fully functional brokerage, trade compliance and logistics network along the border to meet the rapidly growing demands of the U.S.-Mexico trade.

The expansion will begin with the opening of a customs brokerage office in San Diego, with new locations in Brownsville/McAllen, Texas, and Tucson/Nogales, Ariz., will follow during the third quarter of 2001.

Completion of this expansion, combined with the company’s existing locations in El Paso and Laredo, Texas, will enable Emery to provide its shipping customers with full customs brokerage service and supply chain management solutions along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has opened tremendous business opportunities along the U.S.-Mexico border. Our customs brokerage unit expansion is a reflection of the positive growth that the unit, as well as the region, have been experiencing,” said Jeff Hammond, senior director of Emery’s customs brokerage unit.

Emery’s customs brokerage unit has two centralized service centers in North America, one in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, and the other in Toronto. The customs brokers network also includes 39 fully staffed offices in the United States and Canada, each managed by a licensed customs broker.
