Export Import Controls Bureau to use ViaSafe technology

by Canadian Shipper

The Export Import Controls Bureau has announced in a letter to all custom brokers and associations that it has signed a deal with Ottawa’s ViaSafe to offer licensed custom brokers connectivity to the new Export Import Control System.

The Bureau is set to accept delivery of permit application transactions sent by customs brokers using ViaSafe’s Services.

The new permit process is set for implementation by July 1, 2001 for those customs brokers who currently have access to the on-line permit system. The new EICS system features two methods of connections, a web interface and EICS-EDI. The EDI connection streamlines the current permit process by improving the quality of permit information and significantly reduces operation costs for customs brokers.
