Former U.S. Ambassador to Canada appointed to CN’s board of directors
Gordon D. Giffin, former United States Ambassador to Canada, has been appointed to CN’s board of directors.
Giffin, 51, is re-joining the Atlanta law firm Long, Aldridge & Norman as vice-chairman and managing partner of its Washington, D.C., office. In early April 2001. Giffin completed a three-and-a-half year tenure as the United States Ambassador in Ottawa.
“I’m eager to work with the (C.N.) board and senior management in furthering its North American objectives. I enjoyed my stay in Canada and my appointment to CN’s board will ensure continued ties to this extraordinary country,” said Giffin, who grew up in Montreal and Toronto.
CN’s board of directors now has 14 members.
Prior to his diplomatic posting, Mr. Giffin practiced law as a senior partner with Long, Aldridge & Norman. Mr. Giffin’s practice focused on administrative, litigation, and U.S. federal regulatory matters, including substantial work in energy regulatory and telecommunications fields for eighteen years. Before practicing law in the private sector, Mr. Giffin served on Capitol Hill as Director of Legislative Affairs and Chief Counsel to United States Senator Sam Nunn.
