Fraser Surrey Docks to conduct breakbulk study

Fraser Surrey Docks (FSD) has commissioned a study into their breakbulk cargo operations at the Fraser River Port.

The FSD study will examine the types of commodities moving through its facilities and related market trends, broader trends in the breakbulk carrier industry and transportation, and the facilities at the FSD terminal itself, in order to ensure the facility remains globally competitive and offers the best possible service to its breakbulk clients.

"FSD has a vibrant breakbulk shipping industry with further potential for growth," said Mike Cornish, Vice President Marketing & Customer Service for Fraser Surrey Docks.

"We want to look at the overall breakbulk trends with an eye to maximizing the usage of our under-utilized terminal areas. Growth through effective and efficient management of our assets ultimately benefits our clients as well as the local, provincial, and national economies."

In March 2004, FSD announced a $190 million upgrade to its facilities, including the acquisition of two container gantry cranes, and the lease of a large Gottwald mobile harbour crane.

FSD is the general cargo and container terminal at Fraser River Port, and is a key logistics hub in the Greater Vancouver Gateway.
