Hactl and Airport Authority open…

Hactl and Airport Authority open Shenzhen Cargo Consolidation Centre (October 14, 2003)

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Hong Kong Air Cargo Industry Services Limited (Hacis) and in strategic partnership with the Airport Authority (AA), will be opening its first Air Cargo Consolidation Centre (ACCC) in the Futian Free Trade Zone in Shenzhen, just 1 km away from the Lok Ma Chau border crossing in Hong Kong.

Launching its Phase 1 operation in mid-October, the ACCC will provide bulk cargo acceptance and consolidated cross border delivery to Hactl’s SuperTerminal 1 at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

Under the strategic partnership, a joint venture holding company between Hactl and the AA is under consideration to develop cargo services in the PRD to facilitate cargo traffic via HKIA.

Using Hacis’ SuperLink China Direct service portfolio as the operation arm, the ACCC aims to streamline the handling and transportation processes of south-bound air cargo crossing the border from the PRD to Hong Kong. Providing a convenient receiving depot close to the Lok Ma Chau border crossing for cargoes from all over the PRD, the ACCC offers time-definite delivery of cargo to HKIA via the Passage #1 that directly connects the Futian Free Trade Zone with Lok Ma Chau. Shippers and cargo agents will benefit from time and cost reduction in local transportation and warehouse operation.

Phase 1 of the ACCC is a “proof of concept” project for further development of air cargo connectivity in the PRD. Phase 2 operation, targeted for launch in 2004, will cover pre-packed cargo acceptance and consolidation at the ACCC and direct trucking service to SuperTerminal 1 for export.
