Hudson’s Bay reveals results of investment in Oracle’s e-business suite

Enterprise software provider Oracle Corp. and Hudson’s Bay Company, Canada’s largest department-store retailer, have announced the findings of a Return On Investment (ROI) analysis of Hudson’s Bay Company’s implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite.

The study, conducted by Shack & Tulloch, found improved productivity throughout the organization since it began implementing Oracle E-Business Suite. In addition to documenting immediate cost and time savings in business-critical functions, the study indicated that Hudson’s Bay Company’s believes that its ongoing transformation into an efficient e-business will allow the company to achieve millions of dollars in savings and a rapid ROI within two years.

Hudson’s Bay Company implemented Oracle Financials, and Internet Expenses. Among the operational efficiencies cited in the Shack & Tulloch report:

* anticipated improved services and a 15 per cent cost reduction in financial administration and processing throughout the organization following implementation of a single financial transaction and reporting
* a more than 80 per cent reduction in end-to-end information technology (IT) procurement processing;
* annual savings of $200,000 streamlined expense reimbursement; and
* a reduction in employee reimbursement processing time from 21 days to three.

With Oracle E-Business Suite, HBC plans to integrate multiple customer databases into a single, centralized data source. Running off of a single e-business platform, the retailer expects to extend collaboration across the enterprise to obtain a 360-degree view of customers, products and operations. By operating its Bay and Zellers’ chain stores from one unified Web-enabled infrastructure, Hudson’s Bay Company can create more efficient sourcing and manufacturing processes. Relying on Oracle as a trusted advisor, HBC streamlined and simplified its old IT procurement process, reducing IT procurement time by 80 per cent.
