IATA offers in-depth review of international air cargo market
IATA, the International Air Transport Association, has released the fourth edition of its Air Cargo Annual, which provides a statistical overview and graphical “snapshot” of the air cargo industry during 2000.
The overview provides information on global, regional and country market trends together with a ranking of airlines and airports using a wide array of IATA data.
For example, the Air Cargo Annual uses the Cargo Account Settlement System (CASS) database, covering 28 countries, to provide detailed analysis of air exports by destination city and country. It also ranks the top 10 airports, agents and airlines from those countries, enabling the effects of alliances, consolidations, new routes and markets to be traced.
For forwarders, agents, airlines and investors, the Air Cargo Annual provides help with investment and partnership questions.
Despite healthy cargo traffic growth during 2000, yields declined markedly in US$ terms. CASS data shows an average yield of US$1.37/Kg for export tonnage in 2000, a fall of 4.9% on 1999.
European CASS exports fared particularly badly, the 2000 average of US$1.36/Kg comparing unfavourably with the 1999 level of US$1.47/Kg.
The Air Cargo Annual is available for US$130, with a discounted price for IATA members or accredited cargo agents. It can be downloaded from www.iataonline.com.
