J.B. Hunt Transport to equip its fleet with Terion’s FleetView Trailer Monitoring System
The largest publically held motor carrier in North America, Arkansas-headquartered J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. has placed an initial order for 17,000 Terion FleetView Trailer Monitoring Systems.
Terion, which has about 25,000 units in service, is one of the newer companies offering mobile communications for fleets.
“We looked at all of the systems that are currently available and found Terion’s FleetView to be the only one that met our requirements for a feature rich solution with extensive service coverage, reliability, and ease of use,” says Kirk Thompson, president and CEO at J.B.Hunt. “Terion’s ability to deliver the product to our roll-out schedule was also an important factor in our decision to go with the FleetView system.”
J.B. Hunt has been testing the FleetView system since July of 2000. To date, Wabash National Corporation, a Terion strategic partner, has installed over 800 FleetView units on an order of new Wabash DuraPlate trailers for J.B. Hunt. The balance of J.B. Hunt’s order will be installed throughout the remainder of the year.
Terion’s FleetView system uses a flexible application platform. The embedded mobile unit software is configurable and can be completely updated or changed over-the-air. The systems “back office” software is
web-based with an XML interface for legacy system integration. The Web software provides for customized system analysis, reporting, and configuration. It also features multi-company branding capability to serve multiple vertical markets via a common Windows NT-based platform.
The software is hosted on an “ASP” basis as part of the service offering. In addition to Terion’s software implementation, the success of FleetView’s cellular based platform is also attributed to advanced power management, a motion sensor integrated in the mobile unit module, ease of installation, and rugged yet cost effective design.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. has annual revenues of more than $2 billion. The company operates about 11,000 trucks and more than 45,000 trailers and containers. J.B. Hunt offers a variety of services, including truckload and intermodal transportation services, dedicated fleet management, electronic commerce and logistics management.
