KLM Cargo to cut fuel surcharge and increase air freight rates
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ Cargo division has announced that the carrier is cutting its current fuel surcharge on air freight shipments from 17 EUR (Euro) cents to 10 EUR cents per kilogram (approx. 10 USD cents), effective March 1, 2001.
The decision follows stabilization of jet fuel prices at levels comparable to the January – September 2000 period, when the fuel surcharge was also 10 Euro cents per kilogram. The carrier also announced increases in air freight rates of five to ten percent in most key markets, effective April 1, 2001. These increases are based on the ongoing strong demand being experienced throughout its route network, though particularly in key markets such as Asia Pacific and Europe.
