Korean Air Cargo rated world’s second largest freight carrier

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has ranked Korean Air as the world’s second largest cargo carrier in terms of scheduled international freight ton kilometers (FTK).

Korean Air has a fleet of 21 freighters and is the founding member of SkyTeam, the global airlines cargo alliance, partnering AeroMexico, Air France, Alitalia, CSA Czech Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

In 2003, Korean Air recorded 6.8 billion FTKs behind Lufthansa Cargo which recorded 7.2 billion.
This ranking is an improvement over 2001 and 2002 when it was ranked third and heralds a return to the second ranking which it held in 1996, reports schednet.com

Singapore Airlines was ranked third with 6.68 billion FTKs, Cathay Pacific ranked fourth (5.19 billion FTKs) and Air France ranked fifth (4.87 billion FTKs).

Ken Choi, president of Korean Air Cargo Business Division said, “We aim to become the world’s number one cargo carrier by 2007.”
