Leader chosen for hybrid transportation/logistics service

by Canadian Shipper

Wayne R. Schmidt has been chosen to head DP Transport, LLC, owned jointly by DuPont Global Logistics and BDP International.

The first commercial venture of its kind in the deregulated ocean transportation sector, BDP Transport is the collaboration of a major international shipper and its logistics supplier. The Philadelphia-based company is a hybrid transportation/logistics service dedicated to small- and medium-volume shippers.

Established by DuPont and BDP in April of 2000 the joint venture aims to leverage DuPont’s industry knowledge, reputation for safety and quality and purchasing capacity with a select group of ocean carriers, with BDP providing transportation management, freight forwarding, Customs brokerage, logistics information systems and customer service.

Schmidt, as president, will be responsible for re-establishing and implementing the company’s strategic business path with oversight of all operations and sales functions.

Schmidt brings BDP Transport more than 32 years of experience with ocean carriers, NVOCCs, freight forwarding, domestic FCL/LCL carriers and consulting in senior management positions, all giving him unique background and perspective. Prior to joining BDP Transport, he led the reorganization of an international subsidiary of a Fortune 100 LCL/FCL carrier into an independent corporation.

BDP International serves more than 4,000 customers worldwide. The company provides a range of services including ocean, air and ground transportation; export freight forwarding; import customs brokerage; regulatory compliance consultation and education/training; international lead logistics, global chemical logistics, and logistics process analysis and design; project/dimensional services; warehousing/consolidation/distribution; and shipment transaction/tracking systems.
