Manitoba carrier ratings online despite industry protests
Despite the opposition of the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA), the Manitoba Department of Transportation has published its Carrier Safety Ratings on the Web.
Effective Apr. 1, the ratings and, according to the MTA, previous audits have not been used as a basis for establishing the safety ratings, other than carriers that may have had a disposition-order issued against it by the directory–hence changing the company’s safety rating status.
The MTA, critical of the move, is opposed to the publication of the ratings until a number of “related and relevant issues have been addressed.” Those issues include inconsistent rating methodologies; commercial-driver profiles; shipper liability; and accident thresholds.
The MTA is also concerned about the lack of a mechanism to provide a re-audit to carriers upon demand.
