N.J. truck seizures suspended (June 24, 2003)

Canadian and U.S. officials met today to discuss the ongoing seizures of Canadian trucks in New Jersey, for not paying the state’s Corporate Business Tax.

Federal, provincial and trucking industry officials from Canada are hoping to mitigate the impact of the CBT on Canadian-based trucking companies by way of the formal talks.

The state has agreed to suspend its seizures of trucks belonging to Canadian-based carriers while talks are ongoing.

In the next 24 hours, CTA CEO and OTA president David Bradley will be participating in a conference call with senior New Jersey tax officials to arrange a meeting time to discuss a CBT mitigation strategy. To begin the discussions, the Canadian trucking industry will be looking for a zero look-back period for carriers with State of New Jersey nexus.
