Norfolk Southern creating new group to provide modal and distribution services

Norfolk Southern Corp. has formed a new supply chain services group aimed at providing customers with a broad selection of modal and distribution services.

The new group, called Modalgistics, is set up to provide transportation, materials management and distribution services in one package for one price, using a range of modes and information support systems.

Modalgistics will rely on Norfolk Southern’s rail network to develop a service products that combine traditional rail with truck, warehousing and indformation services.

Norfolk Southern boasts a distribution and warehousing network of 174 rail transfer facilities, 124 lumber reload centres, 71 metals distribution centres and four just-in-time rail auto parts centres.
