Old Dominion Freight Line introduces direct service to Canada

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc., which had been offering service to Canada through Concord Transportation, will now be trucking direct to Canada.

The 70-year old Thomasville, North Carolina-headquartered LTL carrier began offering service to Canada in 1989 and worked with a number of marketing partners until 1999 at which time Old Dominion partnered with Concord Transportation and introduced TRANSLINE, an integrated program designed to provide seamless shipping between the United States and Canada.

The approach linking markets in the U.S. and Canada reduced
delivery times by as much as 3 days, according to the company.

Old Dominion will now operate Global service centers throughout Canada utilizing its own computers, telephone lines, and dedicated personnel to provide top-notch customer service and transportation solutions.

Commenting on the decision to offer direct services to Canada, Vice President of ODGlobal, Plemmons said, “Our customers were looking for door-to-door visibility and single carrier responsibility. Additionally,having our own equipment and personnel in Canada will provide Old Dominion with much greater presence in Canada which in turn will enhance growth possibilities.”
