P&O Nedlloyd Website download time improved by 50 percent (July 13, 2001)

P&O Nedlloyd has upgraded its Internet Website (www.ponl.com), with a new, enhanced home page.

The upgrade has been designed to maximize the functionality of the Website as well as upgrade its appearance.

Particular importance has been attached to improving download speed and navigation – particularly of P&O Nedlloyd’s ‘best in class’ E-Commerce products.

The latest changes coincide with P&O Nedlloyd’s automation of the entire shipping cycle from Schedule Enquiry through online Booking and Bill of Lading transactions to Tracking arrival of the consignment at destination.

“The previous version of the home page had served P&O Nedlloyd well since the Website was relaunched in September 2000,” said Mike Chapman, P&O Nedlloyd’s Website Project Team Manager. “However, it is good practice for a Website home page to be reviewed and improvements made on a regular basis. We have streamlined the new home page and improved the download time by at least 50 percent for dial-up modems. We followed detailed analysis and customer feedback, and have brought the most frequently used site features to the fore."

As an example of this, the individual E-Commerce products can now be accessed directly from the home page.

One of P&O Nedlloyd’s most successful E-Commerce releases is Remote Bill Print which enables customers to print Bills of Lading on their own premises.
