Panalpina refocuses management structure

by Canadian Shipper

Panalpina Group will be transferring operational responsibility to four newly created regional centres for Europe, Asia, North and South America and Africa/Middle East/CIS, effective January 1, 2002.

The national Panalpina organizations will report directly to one of the four regional chief executives, each of whom will be a member of the Executive Board. Group headquarters will remain in Basel, Switzerland.

“By regionalizing the Group structure and assigning key central functions to four regional centres, we will come closer to our markets and will be able to react much more rapidly to new developments and customer needs,” says Bruno Sidler, Panalpina Group CEO.

Other units, including the staff of the airfreight and seafreight divisions reponsible for capacity and hub management, and the central planning and IT functions-will continue to be based at Group Head Office in Basel.

The four regional centres will control sales, marketing and operations in their respective regions and will have competence centres for traffic issues, key accounts, controlling and IT.
