CN proposes new intermodal terminal in Chicago area

CN has announced plans to build a new intermodal terminal near the communities of Minooka and Channahon in Grundy County, Ill., to meet growing demand for consumer goods in the Chicago area and the Midwest.

The privately funded terminal aims to enhance access to export markets across the U.S., Mexico, Canada and abroad, connecting the region to the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts. Once fully operational, the project is expected to create approximately 6,500 permanent jobs and generate $20.9 million in annual real estate tax revenue for local schools, parks, libraries and public safety services.

CN will host a public open house on Jan. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Minooka High School South Campus, offering residents an opportunity to learn about the project and ask questions.

The project will immediately create around 600 construction jobs and is designed to minimize traffic impacts on adjacent roads. CN says the terminal will support the local, state, and national economies while boosting job growth and fostering more efficient supply chain operations.
