Reimer Express Lines Ltd. receives CSA certification

Reimer Express Lines Ltd. and its parent Roadway Express, Inc. have received approval from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency to participate in the Customs Self-Assessment (CSA) initiative implemented December 3, 2001.

“CSA certification provides our customers the utmost in convenience in importing goods from the US as well as the assurance that Reimer Express is recognized by Canada Customs as a dependable and reliable carrier in the International marketplace. To be one of seven carriers selected out of 140 applicants to receive CSA approval is a real compliment to not only our systems but to our people as well,” says Allan N. Robison, President and CEO of Reimer Express.

Customs Self-Assessment is part of the Customs Blueprint introduced by Canada Customs to streamline processes for low-risk shipments moving into Canada. Initially, only U.S. originated goods will be eligible for the CSA program.

Another important requirement is that the Canadian importer, the transportation company and the driver must be CSA-certified.

Reimer Express says its international drivers have applied for their CDRP cards (Commercial Driver Registration Program) issued to CSA-approved drivers and are currently receiving them through the mail.

CSA importers will be able to monitor and make adjustments in their own systems, and report to customs periodically. Customs will be better able to quickly distinguish between high-risk and low-risk shipments; and can focus on those that are higher risk.

“We are very supportive of the efforts to improve the efficiencies of the customs’ processes at our international border. When we were first introduced to the concept of CSA, we felt it had many benefits for all parties involved, so we made the investment in resources and technology to enable us to qualify for certification. As the CSA program rolls out, we are ready to offer this service to our customers that are also certified, in addition to the various other clearance options that they have,” says Reimer Express’ Vice President of Operations, Clayton Gording.
