Stinnes logistics group subsidiary Schenker is currently building a logistics centre in Hanover, Germany for the automotive industry and its suppliers. The new centre, with a usable floor space of 36,000 square metres, will replace several halls which Schenker currently uses to supply several thousand parts every day to the neighboring VWN plant. Schenker will open the new centre in mid-2002.
Since 1996 Schenker has been a service provider for VW’s commercial vehicle brand VWN. The new centre, which was designed in close co-operation with VWN and Hanover’s harbour authority, aims to reduce supplier traffic density by means of the construction of a 360-metre bridge. At its Hanover plant, VWN produces approximately 850 light commercial vehicles every weekday.
