Third of six Hamburg Sud vessels christened

The 3,800 TEU containership CAP SAN LORENZO was formally christened Monday, June 18th at ceremonies held at the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard, Koje Island, Korea. The ship is the third of six similar vessels being constructed by Hamburg Sd for use in the trade between the East Coasts of North and South America.

The ship was christened by Julia Oetker, daughter of Rudolf August Oetker. Hamburg Sd is part of the Oetker Group of Germany. The CAP SAN LORENZO will be placed in a short time-charter with the Danish firm of A.P.

Moeller before beginning service with her sister ships this Fall. Plans call for the first four of the six vessels to begin operations at that time, with the remaining two to be phased into service as they are completed late this
year and early next year. Each of the ships has a 22.5 knot cruising speed and capacity for 800 refrigerated containers.
