The New World Alliance (TNWA), which consists of APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and MOL, announced it will reshuffle its Trans-Pacific services by combining the Pacific Northwest Express (PNX) service with the East Coast Service (ECS).
Additionally, new port calls will be added to the Pacific Southwest 1 (PS1), including Vancouver, and Pacific Southwest 3 (PS3) services.
The new ECS port rotation will include the addition of a westbound call at Oakland, after sailing from Panama on its return to Asia. The enhanced ECS service will commence November 21, 2001 with the new sailing from Oakland. The port rotation for the new ECS service will be Chiwan; Hong Kong; Kaohsiung; Kobe; Nagoya; Tokyo; Manzanillo, Panama ; Miami; Charleston; Norfolk; New York; Norfolk; Charleston; Manzanillo, Panama; Oakland; Tokyo; Kobe; return to Chiwan.
The redesigned PS1 service will feature added eastbound calls at Nagoya and Tokyo and a new call at Vancouver to serve both eastbound and westbound markets. The new PS1 will commence on November 8, 2001 from Nagoya. The new PS1 will port rotation will be Seattle, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Yokohama, Yantian, Hong Kong, Singapore, Yantian, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Nagoya, Tokyo, return to Seattle.
The new PS3 service will provide additional calls at Seattle and Vancouver for westbound cargo and will commence with the sailing of the MOL Wisdom Voyage from Seattle on November 22, 2001. The new PS3 port rotation will be Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Shanghai, Kobe, Tokyo, return to Los Angeles
These additional port calls will be accommodated by dropping the current Port Kelang call on the PS1 service, the westbound Oakland call on the PS3 service, and by speeding up the vessels and tightening arrival/departure schedules where possible.
In all, TNWA will operate eight fixed-day weekly services in the Trans-Pacific. It also operates two Asia-U.S. East Coast services, one of these together with Evergreen Marine Corporation. In the Trans-Atlantic and Asia-Europe trades, TNWA has three and five fixed-day services respectively including a service dedicated to the Asia-Mediterranean trade. The three-member carriers co-ordinate some 100 containerships in major container trades.
