Transport Canada to fund ITS Society of Canada

Transport Canada has allocated funding of $250,000 for the ITS Society of Canada, so that it can continue to act as the department’s primary private-sector Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) advisor and partner.

The ITS Society of Canada is a not-for-profit, incorporated partnership of private and public sector professionals charged with promoting ITS applications and strengthening the Canadian ITS industry.

The funding is in addition to the $500,000 provided by Transport Canada to the ITS Society of Canada since 1999, when the Society was first contracted by the department in this capacity.

Intelligent Transportation Systems include advanced systems for: traffic management, traveller information and vehicle control, commercial vehicle and fleet management, public transit, and rural transportation.

They also include the application of advanced technologies, including information processing, communications, and sensing and control, that enhance Canada’s transportation system.
