Transport Minister releases report on Port of Toronto consultations
Federal Transport Minister David Collenette has released a report on the first consultations on future uses of the Port of Toronto. Consultations were conducted with recreational and commercial users of the port and members of the general public in September 2000.
“A number of preliminary options for the future of the Portlands and the Port of Toronto were presented to stimulate discussion and comments. This consultation report is an important first step in assessing the impact of future plans for the Port of Toronto,” said Mr. Collenette.
As part of the national transportation system, the Port of Toronto is a Canada Port Authority under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Transport. Transport Canada, along with its partners in the Government of Ontario and the City of Toronto, is taking an active role in revitalizing Toronto’s waterfront supporting the city’s bid to host the 2008 Olympic games. The Olympic bid is a key milestone in determining what activities will be taking place on the Portlands in the future.
