Hiring in Canada’s trucking and logistics sector continued to ease in 2025 as demand for workers fell and the pool of job seekers grew, new data from Trucking HR Canada shows.

Employment in the second quarter was down 0.2 per cent from the same period last year, with transport truck driver employment off 1.1 per cent. Still, the industry saw 11,600 more people looking for work than in Q2 2024, including an additional 2,800 drivers.

“For employers this potentially means there is a greater pool of workers to recruit from,” said Craig Faucette, chief program officer at Trucking HR Canada. “This provides employers with an opportunity to build their workforces with the skilled workers needed to drive business growth. As a result, it may be easier for employers to fill their current job openings with highly skilled workers.”

Job vacancy data from the first quarter showed a drop in positions employers were actively recruiting for, with transport truck driver openings down 24 per cent, or 3,680 jobs, compared to Q1 2024.

Despite the slowdown, the recruitment rate for truck drivers remains higher than the 2.8 per cent average across all Canadian industries, THRC said.
