EMERSON, Manitoba—About 40 people have been moved out of their homes as a precaution in a western Manitoba community after two rail cars loaded with unscented propane derailed.

The RCMP say four rail cars went off the tracks within the Town of Emerson Tuesday morning, two of them carrying propane.

Police say there are no injuries, leaks or fires.

The rail cars are part of a BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) train that is on a major line that crosses the border into the US.

Emerson Mayor Wayne Arseny says fire, railway and hazardous material crews are on the scene.

He says people in the town have been moved about 300 metres away from the derailment.
