UPS Logistics Group adopts round-the-clock automated parts access
UPS Logistics Group, a subsidiary of United Parcel Service, is taking the first step towards providing fully automated, self-service parts distribution.
Customers can now pick up or return essential parts 24 hours a day, seven days a week thanks to new technology that enables access to secured UPS Logistics Group storage facilities.
“Our service parts logistics business is about providing the right part to the right person at the right time,” said Bob Stoffel, Senior Vice President- Service Parts Logistics, UPS LG. “This technology allows our employees and our customers to exchange critical parts around the clock without the need for 24×7 staffing.”
UPS Logistics Group has selected the Brivo Access Control System to begin a pilot that will support the automated exchange of vital parts for its service parts logistics business. The system facilitates the hand-off of replacement parts from UPS LG to the customer by utilizing transaction-specific key codes that enable access to secure areas.
Once a part is delivered and placed in the secure area, the customer will receive an automatic e-mail notification alerting them that the part is ready for retrieval. The same notification process applies when the customer retrieves the part, and the entire event history – including precise time stamps for each transaction – becomes accessible in real time on the Web.
UPS Logistics Group will employ two types of remote access distribution facilities using this technology – a designated space within the UPS LG facility reachable through a vestibule door, and an exterior secured box located outside the facility. Call center support will be available to UPS LG employees and clients around the clock.
