US ports demand four days advance notice for ships

US ports are now requiring that ships over 300 gross tonnage wishing to enter port territory must give a 96-hour advance notice.

The move results from policy changes in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US.

Ships must now provide details of their crew, passengers and cargo before being allowed entry to US ports.
