USCO Logistics has announced that six of its multi-client distribution centers (Denver, Miami, Alsip, Illinois; Lenexa, Kansas; Memphis, Tennessee; and Reno, Nevada) have received ISO 9002 certification.
With these latest certifications, USCO Logistics now has 12 ISO 9002-certified shared distribution centers.
In addition, two distribution centres — Port Clinton, Ohio, and Hayward, Calif. — are awaiting external registrar audits expected to be completed by the end of the year. USCO facilities in Dallas, Jersey City, Atlanta and Lakeland will be completed in 2003. Two USCO dedicated facilities, in Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and Dorval, Quebec, Canada, also have been ISO 9002 certified.
ISO 9002 performance standards were published as a standard model for quality assurance applying to production, installation and servicing activities in 1987 and updated most recently in 2000.
Before a distribution center can be ready to receive ISO certification, all personnel go through both classroom and operational training, averaging eight hours per person. Processes and procedures are refined and added to the daily operations. This process normally takes about 10 weeks. The facility must then pass a 380-point quality audit administered by internal auditors. Once USCO management concludes that a facility is ready for certification, independent ISO registrars audit the facility to determine compliance to both ISO and USCO’s own written standards.
