Saddle Creek Logistics Services is using Zebra barcode scanning, mobile computing and barcode printing solutions. Saddle Creek selected Zebra’s Android-based ergonomic TC8000 touch computers and ultra-rugged MC9300 mobile computers. The mobile computers have helped Saddle Creek increase productivity in their warehouse, picking and service areas. Saddle Creek also selected Zebra’s ET50 tablets and ultra-rugged DS3600 extended-range scanners as a vehicle-mounted solution. Saddle Creek is also using Zebra’s DS9908-R scanner and ZT610 industrial series printer.
Rand Logistics, Inc. has completed the acquisition of American Steamship Company from GATX Corporation. Rand is a portfolio company of American Industrial Partners and provides dry bulk shipping services throughout the Great Lakes region. The combination of Rand and ASC moves almost 50 million tons annually of dry bulk commodities such as iron ore, coal and limestone on vessels ranging in size from 634 feet to over 1,000 feet.
Imperial Logistics’s Chemical division has been awarded a contract to store and handle lithium-ion traction batteries for the German operations of a major global automotive manufacturer. Under the contract, Imperial will store the batteries at two locations with a combined footprint of approximately 269,000 square feet (25,000 sqm). At one of these sites – one of Imperial’s 17 European specialist multi-user hazmat warehouses – it will also charge the batteries for delivery to the manufacturer’s aftermarket network. Imperial’s facilties have extensive, state-of-the-art fire prevention features, along with numerous other safety measures.
Lineage Logistics has acquired the last-mile food service distribution assets of Maines Paper & Food Service, Inc., a major foodservice distributor in the U.S. This division, which encompasses a sophisticated warehousing and transportation network across seven states, serves over 2,500 brand restaurants including Burger King, Tim Hortons, Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and The Capital Grille.
TJ Morris, one of Europe’s fastest growing general merchandise and food retailers, has awarded Witron the contract to design and implement an 850,350 sq. ft. DC in Warrington, U.K. The DC will open in 2023 and store 12,000 different dry goods items in 470,000 pallet, tray and tote storage locations. It will include more than 100 stacker cranes and have more than 15 km of conveyors. The daily picking capacity will be 646,000 cases, which will be sorted into roll containers and totes to service the chain’s projected growth to 1,000 retail locations. Witron will develop all IT, control and mechanical components. The DC will include a fully automatic shipping buffer that decouples order picking from the shipping area so all are units available for loading in the dispatch area via stacker cranes and heavy duty lanes.
