New Canadian DC for footwear maker

CALGARY, Alberta: The opening of a new distribution centre in Calgary is one of the first moves Justin Brands Inc is making to expand its operations outside of the US market.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Justin Brands is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway that manufactures western-styled boots and work boots under a number of different brands including Chippewa, Tony Lama, and Justin.

The facility in Calgary was officially opened in October 2011, but has come into full production this quarter.

It is 6,038sqm (65,000sqf), has an inventory ranging between 35,000 and 40,000 pairs of boots, and employs 15 people.

The DC looks after retail fulfillment operations and drop-shipping.

Justin also created a Canadian-based sales team to serve the market.

In a statement, company CEO and chairman, Randy Watson, discussed Justin’s supply chain strategy: “As we expand, we are taking a very focused approach to each region in order to maintain quality control, distribution and product selections appropriate for each market,” he said.
