WOODSTOCK, Ontario: Sysco Canada is expanding.
The company, which sells, markets and distributes food products to restaurants, hospitals and schools, has agreed to pay $2.7 million to purchase 23ha (seven acres) of industrial land in a business park in Woodstock, Ontario. The site will be the location of a new 37,160sqm- (400,000sqf) food distribution centre.
Plans call for the facility to have approximately 8,270sqm (89,000sqf) of freezer space, 4,550sqm (49,000sqf) of cooler space, 3,810sqm (41,000sqf) of cold dock space; a 9,383sqm (101,000sqf) dry warehouse, a 2,880sqm (31,000sqf) dry dock, 1,80sqm (17,000sqf) for material handling and equipment storage, and 6,225sqm (67,000sqf) of office space. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall.
“We are excited about the location, the surface roads infrastructure, and the ability to serve our current customers and grow our business from a state-of-the-art distribution centre,” said Rodney Stroud, market president of Sysco Canada-East and president of Sysco Central Ontario.
Houston, Texas-based Sysco Corp operates 177 distribution facilities serving approximately 400,000 customers. Sysco Canada has operations in all Canadian provinces except Prince Edward Island.
