Port Saint John reports record container traffic in 2025

Port Saint John reported record container and cruise volumes in 2025 as it completed a major terminal modernization project and expanded its cargo capacity.

The port handled 239,364 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container cargo during the year, up 29.4 per cent from 2024. It also moved 25.4 million metric tonnes of liquid bulk and 1.3 million metric tonnes of dry bulk.

“2025 was a defining year for Port Saint John,” said Craig Bell Estabrooks, president and CEO. “With our West Side Modernization Project complete, we have the capacity, partnerships and diversified cargo base needed to support long-term growth and help move Canadian trade to global markets.”

The port said completion of its $247-million West Side Modernization Project expanded terminal capacity, added a new berth, strengthened intermodal connections and increased container-handling capacity to more than four times previous levels.

During the year, Port Saint John also joined the Gemini Cooperation network and broke ground on Americold’s $100-million import-export hub to support temperature-controlled, agri-food, breakbulk and containerized cargo.
