Polaris joins Ottawa’s Net-Zero Challenge initiative

Polaris Transportation Group says it has joined the federal government’s Net-Zero Challenge initiative, committing to achieving net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The Brampton, Ont.-based less-than-truckload carrier said the commitment builds on its existing target to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 through changes to its fleet and facilities.

The Net-Zero Challenge is a federal initiative designed to help Canadian businesses set science-based emissions reduction targets and report publicly on their progress toward decarbonization.

“By joining the Net-Zero Challenge, Polaris Transportation Group is demonstrating leadership through net-zero planning,” said the Julie Dabrusin, minister of the environment, climate change and nature. “This Government of Canada initiative supports businesses in setting ambitious targets that not only reduce emissions but also strengthen their long-term competitiveness. As global markets shift toward clean growth, companies like Polaris are helping position our country to lead and succeed in the net-zero economy.”

Polaris said it is also working to improve sustainability across its supply chain through initiatives tied to waste diversion, employee commuting programs and sustainable procurement, although it has not established a formal Scope 3 emissions target.

“For Polaris, sustainability is not just an initiative, it’s a responsibility,” said Dave Cox, CEO of Polaris Transportation Group. “By participating in the Net-Zero Challenge, we are strengthening our long-term commitment to reducing emissions, investing in responsible operations and supporting a more sustainable future for the transportation industry.”
