Weekly flights from Halifax to Iqaluit

Halifax, NS—Canadian North Airlines will introduce a weekly non-stop service from Halifax to Iqaluit starting Friday, June 20, 2014. Part of that service will see additional flights between Halifax and St John’s.

Canadian North will use Boeing 737-300 aircraft, configured with 136 seats, to serve the new routes that will operate every Friday.

“Offering additional flights to Iqaluit brings greater access for investment, business travel, tourism and freight, enabling continued economic development across Nunavut,” said Steve Hankirk, president of Canadian North.

“Halifax Stanfield is delighted to play a role in opening Canada’s burgeoning north,” said Jerry Staples, HIAA VP air service marketing and business development. “We welcome our new partners, Canadian North, and we look forward to exploring the new possibilities this service will bring.  This will allow for businesses, friends and relatives to access our neighbours in both regions, strengthen ties, create economic activity and encourage new growth. This new service will also move people and products between our regions faster, saving time and money.”

“Nova Scotia businesses understand the need to establish new export opportunities. Partnerships, like Canadian North and Halifax Stanfield, resulting in non-stop flights to Nunavut and St John’s, are expanding markets for our goods and services,” said Michel Samson, Nova Scotia’s minister of economic and rural development and tourism.

Depending upon the level of support for this new service, Canadian North says flights could be expanded and/or the season extended.

Canadian North and its founding companies (Canadian Airlines, Pacific Western Airlines, Transair, Nordair) have served Canada’s North with passenger and cargo services for more than 80 years. They offer flights to Northwest Territories and flights to Nunavut through their southern gateways of Edmonton and Ottawa, destinations in Manitoba and Nunavut through their partnership with Calm Air, and seasonal service to Eastern Canada. Canadian North also offers air charter services within and beyond the North for industrial clients, sports teams, and large groups.
