THE ATLANTIC OCEAN: A crewman who was working on-board the container vessel Maersk Bintan fell overboard into the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 550 nautical miles from nearest land southeast of Bermuda. The ship was travelling from Panama to Spain at the time.
The accident happened at night, and the crewman, Tanawoot Pratoom, wasn’t reported missing until the morning.
Although Pratoom spent hours in the water, he was eventually rescued by his shipmates after the Bintan reversed course and began searching for him.
Pratoom and his colleagues spoke about the experience once they reached Algeciras, Spain—their first port of call.
